April 2016

The President of the Supreme Court led the Thai delegation to attend the 38th Governing Council Meeting of the ASEAN Law Association in Ho Chi Minh City, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam

On April 2, 2016, the Honorable Chief Justice Veerapol Tungsuwan, President of the Supreme Court, headed a Thai delegation which consisted of the representatives from the Court of Justice, the Office of the Attorney General, the Department of Treaties and Legal Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, the Office of the Council of State, the Thai Bar Association and the Faculty of Law, Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University, totalling 38 members to attend the 38th Governing Council Meeting of the ASEAN Law Association in Ho Chi Minh City, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.


During plenary sessions topics discussed amongst others included:


(1) A change in the format of the Governing Council Meeting of the ASEAN Law Association in accordance with a proposal from the Republic of Singapore (2) A Harmonized Framework for the Liberalization of Law Practice in ALL ASEAN States in accordance with a proposal from the Republic of the Philippines (3) An amendment to the Charter of the ASEAN Law Association to include rendering an opinion on the law and treaty interpretation as one of its objectives; and (4) A future role of the ASEAN Law Association which shall be increased in regional security in accordance with a proposal from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. In several plenary, Judge Montri Sillapamahabundit, Research Justice of the Supreme Court was entrusted to act as chairman of the commission for Alternative Dispute Resolution meeting.

In addition, the next Governing Council Meeting of the ASEAN Law Association will be convened in Negara Brunei Darussalam in the second quarters of 2017.


March 2016

The President of the Supreme Court presided the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Office of the Judiciary, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Singapore Judicial College, the Supreme Court of Singapore

On March 18, 2016, the Honorable Chief Justice Veerapol Tungsuwan, President of the Supreme Court, presided the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Office of the Judiciary, the Kingdom of Thailand and the Singapore Judicial College, the Supreme Court of Singapore. In this ceremony, Hon. Athikom Intuputi, Secretary General of the Office of the Judiciary, and Hon. Andrew Phang, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Singapore Judicial College and Justice of the Supreme Court of Singapore, signed the Memorandum of Understanding at the Sanya Dharmasakti auditorium, 7th floor, Judicial Training Institute Building. On this occasion, the President of the Supreme Court congratulated on the Signing Ceremony and delivered a keynote speech to the attending participants.

February 2016

The Opening Ceremony of the E-Justice Conference Center

On 24th February 2016, The Honorable Chief Justice Veerapol Tungsuwan, President of the Supreme Court presided at the opening ceremony of the E-Justice Conference Center on floor 6 of the Criminal Court Building and provided a keynote speech on the topic of "the Significance of Witnesses and Interpreters in Criminal Proceedings under the Context of the ASEAN Community" in the Conference Room located on floor 12 of the Criminal Court Building. The opening was additionally attended by many honorable and distinguished guests including judicial officers along with diplomatic representatives from a number of Embassies to the Kingdom of Thailand notably the Ambassador of the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines and representatives from the Royal Bhutanese Embassy, the Royal Embassy of Cambodia, the French Embassy, the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the Embassy of Japan, the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, the Embassy of Malaysia, the Embassy of the Russian Federation, the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore and the Embassy of the United States.

On February 17th, 2016, the United State Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Thailand H.E. Mr. Glyn T. Davies, paid a courtesy visit to the President of the Supreme Court, The Honourable Chief Justice Veerapol Tungsuwan, at the Supreme Court President's reception rooms in the Rajaburi Direkriddhi Building, whereupon His Excellency was introduced as per established diplomatic protocols.
